Roy Stewart is a proud husband, lifelong learner, community advocate, and experienced
leader who has dedicated much of his life to building a stronger future for Prince
George.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born and raised in a small town in the East Kootenays, Roy understood at a young age
that education would open doors and create opportunities. Leaving behind a community
of just 3,000 people, he moved to attend a university with more than 24,000 students. It
was there that he discovered not only a passion for learning, but also a love of
meaningful conversation, exchanging ideas, and connecting with people from all walks
of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After obtaining his law degree, Roy chose to make Prince George his home and
established a successful legal practice. While building his career, he quickly became
deeply involved in the community, particularly in education, which he believes is the
foundation of a strong and successful society. Roy served as a school trustee and later
became Chair of the School Board, advocating tirelessly for students, families, and the
future of northern communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of Roy\u2019s most significant contributions to the region was his leadership in the
campaign to establish a university in Prince George. As President of the Interior
University Society, he helped lead the public movement that ultimately brought a new
university to the North. Understanding that access to education also required financial
support, Roy developed a fundraising initiative called North to the Future, which helped
provide scholarships, bursaries, and academic funding for future generations of
students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout his legal career, Roy worked extensively with the City of Prince George,
regional districts, and communities across northern British Columbia. For more than 20
years, he advised local governments throughout the region, giving him a deep
understanding of how municipalities operate, the challenges they face, and the
opportunities available to create stronger, more sustainable communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roy also played a key role in organizing the local legal community\u2019s successful
campaign for a new courthouse in Prince George \u2014 a landmark building that now
anchors George Street and serves as an important civic institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond law and politics, Roy has always believed in the importance of arts and culture.
As President of the Prince George Symphony Society, he helped transform the
organization from one that struggled financially into one with long-term stability and an
endowment fund to support its future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Healthcare has also been one of Roy\u2019s long-standing priorities. Frustrated by
deficiencies in local healthcare services and the challenges of recruiting professionals to
the North, he became co-chair of the City Health Committee. The committee\u2019s work
ultimately helped lead to the establishment of the medical residency program in Prince
George \u2014 a major step forward for healthcare in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While local politics was never Roy\u2019s primary ambition, the changes and challenges
facing Prince George over the past decade convinced him that stronger leadership and
a clearer long-term vision are needed for the city\u2019s future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roy believes leadership is about doing the work \u2014 understanding issues, listening to
people, and finding practical solutions. He brings decades of experience, community
involvement, and proven results to the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Roy Stewart is ready to lead Prince George with integrity, knowledge, and a
commitment to the people he serves. He believes in thoughtful planning, responsible
leadership, and building a city that future generations can be proud to call home.
